SWANGER REMAINS UNDEFEATED AT THE BURGadmin
(Whitesburg, GA – May 23, 2021) Hometown cooking has been the best for Whitesburg’s James Swanger this season. He once again visited West Georgia Speedway’s victory lane on Saturday night extending his win streak to four and remaining undefeated so far in 2021 in the revitalized speedway in Whitesburg. Swanger held off the challenges from Lindale’s Eric Hamby to notch the win in the Southern Outlaw Hobby special event presented by Sanders Logging.
Winston’s Marty Massey also picked up a checkered flag winning the Crate Late Model race while Acworth’s ‘Fast’ Cass Fowler won the main event in the Summit Racing Equipment Late Model Sportsman. Carrollton’s Jamie Simmons won his first feature of the season in the Gerber Collision & Glass Chargers with Rockmart’s Tracy Hulsey also winning his first taking home the victory in the Massey Towing Mini Stock. Alabama’s Jayce Swint won his first at West Georgia Speedway topping the Hot Shots and Whitesburg’s Derrick Matthews won in the West Georgia Tire Bomber division feature.
NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Mason Massey of Mooresville, NC, came home to try and better his showing of a couple weeks ago. Massey clocked in three one thousandths of a second faster than his uncle Marty Massey to nab the pole position in the Crate Late Model race.
On the drop of the green, the Massey’s roared into turn one with the elder Marty gaining the lead with a strong move on the highside of the track. It was all he needed to gain the position and then keep Mason chasing him the rest of the way. It was Marty Massey’s second win of the season.
Fowler tightened his grip on the Summit Racing Equipment Late Model Sportsman division winning his third of four race nights. Fowler ran flag to flag with Villa Rica’s Matthew Knight providing the chase. Alabama’s Scott Land ran a solid third place to finish on the podium.
In the Gerber Collision & Glass Chargers, all eyes were on the intense battle for second between Villa Rica’s Cole Barrett and Newnan’s Landon Frix. The teenagers fought hard through most of the race with Barrett gaining the second place spot by jumping outside of Frix with two laps remaining. Barrett would charge to hard into turns one and two on the next lap and spun allowing Frix to move past and regain second before the checkered flag fell.
Alabama’s Jason Burton led the first nine laps of the Massey Towing Mini Stock feature, but lost the lead when he blew a tire on lap nine. That opened the door for Tracy Hulsey who then held off Temple’s David Brackett to gain the win.
West Georgia Speedway cranks up again this Saturday with a special event honoring American heroes. The holiday weekend event will feature racing in the Crate Late Models, Summit Racing Equipment Late Model Sportsman, Gerber Collision & Glass Chargers, Sanders Logging Hobby, West Georgia Tire Bombers, Massey Towing Mini Stocks and Hot Shots.
